Of all the skills that you and I possess, listening is perhaps the most overlooked and the least valued. If you consider our education system, we teach reading and writing but not listening.
It’s a scandal if people leave school unable to read or write but millions of people every year leave school without the ability to listen. Your ability to listen is an amazing instrument as a facilitator.
People think that listening is an ability. It’s not. It’s a skill. And it’s a skill that we can practice and master. The benefits are huge. After all, listening is how we learn and it’s how our clients learn.
